They say the two things that cannot be avoided are death and taxes – and dwelling on either is something most of us are reluctant to do.

Bamboo Coffin

Bamboo Coffin

After sourcing baby products in 2009 Continuum were given the task at the other end of the human life cycle spectrum of sourcing raw material that would be used in the construction of an environmentally friendly coffin.

Jute and willow are two materials that are used in coffin construction, but there was a growing feeling amongst the coffin manufacturing community that bamboo sheets would tick the boxes required of a robust environmentally sustainable coffin construction solution.

In the summer of 2012 Continuum Shanghai office examined a number of potential sources, where bamboo growth and treatment, board construction and packaging techniques were all closely examined. A small initial order was placed with a specialist bamboo board manufacturer, and boards arrived in Scotland in December 2012.

Early feedback had been very encouraging with more orders anticipated throughout 2013.
